Combining and Feeding Cartons for Wrapper - System Spotlight

This system was designed for one of our customers that wanted to transport, accumulate, index, and combine cartons of butter at a combined rate of 140 products per minute in preparation for shrink wrapping. Products enter the system from two customer supplied cartoners and proceed to the traffic control area. A blade stop, fixed stop, and in-surface sensors will provide traffic control to merge the two incoming product streams. Then, slugs of product are alternately released from the blade stop and a pneumatic pusher pushes the other slug of product to the right lane. The combined product conveys to an overhead sweep and cartons accumulate until a low prime sensor has been blocked. Once blocked, the sweep will index the selected pattern off the conveyor and onto a customer supplied shrink wrapper.

Welcome to System Spotlight, giving you an in-depth look at Shuttleworth’s more advanced product handling systems and conveyor applications. In this video, we will showcase a solution for one of our customers that wanted to transport, accumulate, index, and combine cartons of butter at a combined rate of 140 products per minute in preparation for shrink wrapping.

Products enter the system from two customer-supplied cartoners and proceed to the traffic control area. A blade stop, fixed stop, and sensors will provide traffic control to merge the two incoming product streams. Slugs of product are alternately released from the blade stop, and a pneumatic pusher pushes the other slug of product to the right lane.

The combined product conveys to an overhead sweep, which was designed and created by Shuttleworth. Cartons accumulate until a low prime sensor has been blocked. Once blocked, the sweep will index the selected pattern off the conveyor and onto a customer-supplied shrink wrapper.
